palmeras negras (written in lowercase) began their journey as a trio. But it didn’t take long for drummer Víctor Gutiérrez to join Jesús Barrau (vocals, guitar, and synthesizers), Diego García (bass and screams), and Jesús Torres (guitar) in their quest to nourish that distinctive sound that keeps growing. Thus, the shoegaze and emo of their beginnings have also incorporated new elements: doses of doomgaze and slowcore that remind us of Low, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, American Football, and Black Country, New Road. Although their name is in lowercase, their sound is anything but small.
