Mitsune is a Japanese folk fusion band based in Berlin, which takes a love for traditional Japanese music and infuses it with psychedelic, jazz, and cinematic influences. Fronted by two powerful shamisen (3-stringed Japanese lute) players who honor and modernize the tradition, the band is known for its live shows that are a visual and sartorial feast where the traditional meets the avant-garde. Since 2018, they have shared the stage with acts like Hiatus Kaiyote and were nominated for the German Record Critic’s Prize for their album Hazama (2022). Mitsune continues to garner praise as "a contemporary introduction to the world of Tsugaru shamisen" and is preparing to release a follow-up album in 2025.
