ABOUT MONKEY WEEK
ALHAMBRA Monkey Week is an annual meeting point where artists, public and professionals from the Spanish independent music scene can interact with delegates and professionals from all over Europe, Latin America and other parts of the world. In short, it is the place to discover and make visible all those musical initiatives that will eventually become part of the new European cultural fabric and, by extension, of the increasingly thriving Latin American circuit.
“What Monkey Week intends and every year achieves: fill our heads with music (good, messy, eclectic) and send us home with the feeling that it (our head) will never be the same again”
(Mondosonoro, Spain)
Where are those artists and professionals who will constitute the scene on which the creation of new audiences, the growing consumption habits and the brand-new networks of cultural collaboration that will be established in the coming years will be based? Do not hesitate, you will find them in ALHAMBRA Monkey Week.
Considered the festival that has established the showcase format in live music in our country, ALHAMBRA Monkey Week has consolidated international interest in its recent editions: professionals and musicians from territories such as Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, USA, Portugal, France, England, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Australia, Japan, Korea and China have participated in the last editions. “The Iberian equivalent of the South by Southwest festival in Austin in Texas. An energetic and chaotic atmosphere with an unlikely fauna of girls with bangs and bearded boys proudly wearing gang jerseys. A little revolution ”
(Libération, France)
ALHAMBRA Monkey Week is an urban festival, a trade fair, a professional meeting, a cultural event and a whole experience that will emphasize the possibilities offered by interpersonal relationships. established between artists and professionals in the sector.
In its last editions, the festival has considerably increased its programming, extending in number of days and encouraging the proliferation of new environments and activities. All this has been possible thanks to the opportunity offered by a 100% urban space such as the Alameda de Hércules in Seville and its surroundings, the epicenter of culture and leisure in the Andalusian capital. This year we will once again have such attractive places as Espacio Santa Clara; venues and nightclubs such as Fun Club, Holiday by Obbio or Sala X; enclaves as special as the now classic bumper car track converted into an open-air concert hall; the public stage located in the Plaza de la Alameda or the stage of the marvelous Torre Don Fadrique, albarrana building built in 1252 and located in the courtyard of the Santa Clara convent, within the intramural area that surrounded the old walls of Seville. Considered an Asset of Cultural Interest, the Torre Don Fadrique will be the epicenter of the professional area that, as every year, will offer transversal programming aimed exclusively at professionals.
“Beyond music, Monkey Week is a key life force for culture”
(The Quietus, UK)
If to all the aforementioned we add the closeness that exists between the different spaces and the possibilities offered by a city like Sevilla, an area full of places dedicated to leisure and restaurants, the ALHAMBRA Monkey Week experience seems like a gastro-cultural journey unique in the country.
